Liverpool are ready to rival Inter Milan to try and sign Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard this summer.
This according to today’s Sunday print edition of UK newspaper the Express, via FCInterNews, who report that the Reds are in talks with 27-year-old French international Pavard’s agents, and view him as a potential defensive reinforcement for next season.
Bayern defender Pavard is a player on Inter’s radar as a possible replacement for Milan Skriniar.
The Nerazzurri had reportedly made an offer to Bayern in January. However, the German champions turned it down.
Inter put a €20 million offer on the table, but the Bavarians rebuffed it.
In the end, Skriniar stayed put at Inter, whilst Pavard remained at Bayern.
However, the fact remains that Skriniar is leaving Inter to join Paris Saint-Germain this summer. Accordingly, the Nerazzurri will have to replace the Slovakian.
Reportedly, Pavard remains a “dream signing” to replace Skriniar like-for-like in the summer.
Liverpool Also Keen To Sign Inter Target Benjamin Pavard
Bayern have been attempting to extend the contract of Pavard. As things stand, the Frenchman’s deal will keep him at the Allianz Arena until the end of next June.
However, Pavard has reportedly refused the German champions’ offers.
As such, there is every chance that Bayern will sell Pavard during the summer transfer window. This would represent their last chance to cash in on the former Stuttgart defender for a substantial fee in all likelihood.
However, it remains to be seen where Pavard could go. Everything will depend on the offers that arrive for him.
Inter are reportedly still tracking Pavard closely. The Nerazzurri’s city rivals AC Milan are also reportedly big fans and sense a potential opportunity.
However, the two Milanese clubs could face formidable competition in the race for the 2018 World Cup winner’s signature.
Premier League giants Liverpool are reportedly keen. The Reds are aiming to reinforce the defense available to Juergen Klopp for next season.
According to the Express, Liverpool are speaking to Pavard’s representatives.
However, it is not yet clear whether the talks are serious, or whether the Reds will be able to convince Bayern.
Meanwhile, Bayern reportedly want a fee of €20 million to sell Pavard.
