AC Milan are not yet out of the race to sign Sassuolo midfielder Davide Frattesi, although their city rivals Inter are the favourites.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that as long as the Nerazzurri can complete a sale of Marcelo Brozovic to Al-Nassr then they are still in pole position to sign the 23-year-old.

Milan have reportedly been ready to enter the races to sign Frattesi since agreeing a deal with Newcastle United for Sandro Tonali.

The Rossoneri see Italy breakout star Frattesi as a candidate to replace Tonali in midfield. Even after having confirmed the arrival of Ruben Loftus-Cheek from Chelsea they’re still interested in Frattesi.

However, the Gazzetta report, Inter are still in the driver’s seat in the race to sign Frattesi.

The Nerazzurri have, crucially, secured the agreement of the player concerned. Frattesi wants to make the switch to Inter.

Moreover, Inter are in more advance talks with Sassuolo to make a deal.

AC Milan Still Want Davide Frattesi But Inter In Pole Position

Everything looks to be linked with the fate of Inter’s negotiations with Al-Nassr for Brozovic.

If the Nerazzurri are able to agree a deal with the Saudi Pro League club, then they are likely to be able to close on a deal for Frattesi.

This is because they already have a general agreement lined up with Sassuolo.

The Nerazzurri are ready to send striker Samuele Mulattieri to the Neroverdi to account for part of Frattesi’s price tag. The bulk of the rest of the fee they will reinvest from a fee for Brozovic.

Accordingly, if Inter can finalize the deal for Brozovic, then they are still the favourites to sign Frattesi.

If on the other hand the Nerazzurri fail to do so, Milan are also waiting in the wings. Frattesi is also a target for Roma.
