Inter Milan are accelerating their pursuit of Atalanta defender Merih Demiral, whilst Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah is their main alternative.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. The newspaper suggests that the Turk has now emerged as the Nerazzurri’s main target to replace Milan Skriniar.
Time is starting to be against Inter in their search for a replacement for Milan Skriniar as the Slovakian heads to Paris Saint-Germain. The departure Danilo D’Ambrosio adds further urgency to the Nerazzurri’s casting call for a defensive signing.
A move for Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta fell through, leaving Inter back at square one.
However, the Nerazzurri look to now be ready to reignite their pursuit of a player they’d already earmarked to replace Skriniar in the recent past. And they could do so quickly.
Inter Milan Reignite Pursuit Of Merih Demiral
The Gazzetta report that Demiral is the player Inter are now focusing on as a replacement for Skriniar.
The former Sassuolo and Juventus defender had already been on Inter’s radar in January. That was when it looked as though a sale of Skriniar to PSG could be on the cards.
In the end, Skriniar stayed put and so did Demiral. However, now Skriniar is gone, with PSG as his presumptive destination, and Inter are ready to move for Demiral once again.
Moreover, the 25-year-old is likely to leave Atalanta this summer. This is due to a fallout with La Dea coach Gian Piero Gasperini which means that Demiral is out of the project.
Therefore, Atalanta will be willing to listen to offers for the Turkish international. A key sticking point, however, is the formula for a transfer.
Inter have always been asking for a loan containing a purchase option. For their part, La Dea prefer a permanent sale, and are demanding at least a loan with a purchase obligation.
According to the Gazzetta, however, Inter are starting to seriously consider at least the latter. They want Demiral and they know that time is of the essence to complete a deal.
Chelsea’s Chalobah Main Alternative To Atalanta’s Demiral
Meanwhile, Inter could also reignite their pursuit of another former target to replace Skriniar.
The Gazzetta report that the Nerazzurri are thinking of Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah as a possible target.
Inter have reportedly seen Chalobah as a prospective Skriniar replacement both last summer and in January. And, now that they are finally forced to replace the Slovakian, they could still move for the Englishman.
