Inter Milan want to finally sell Stefano Sensi this summer, and then sign a younger midfielder to replace him.

This according to Italian news outlet FCInter1908, who outline the Nerazzurri’s transfer strategy to complete their midfield for the upcoming season, with the club’s intention still to make one signing.

Inter have already made one high-profile signing in midfield this summer – that of Davide Frattesi from Sassuolo.

The 23-year-old Italian international arrived after Marcelo Brozovic headed the other way – the Nerazzurri sold the Croat to Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr.

However, that won’t be the only business that Inter do in midfield this summer. The departure of Roberto Gagliardini for Monza on a free transfer makes sure of that.

Former Atalanta midfielder Gagliardini had been the “sixth” midfielder in the rotation last season.

Without the 29-year-old around, Inter have only five senior midfielders in their squad. They do not consider this to be sufficient depth given the number of matches and the possibility of injuries.

Inter Want To Sell Sensi, Sign A Younger Midfielder

A couple of midfielders have returned from loan moves this summer. However, in both cases, FCIN1908 report, Inter do not see them as part of the first-team plans for next season.

Stefano Sensi has come back from a season-long loan with Monza.

The Brianzoli declined to sign the 27-year-old on a permanent basis.

Injury-prone former Sassuolo midfielder Sensi’s contract with the Nerazzurri runs out at the end of June. This should be the end of the line for him at Inter.

There is little thought given to the idea of using Sensi as a depth option next season.

Another player who is back from loan is Giovanni Fabbian.

There have been one or two suggestion that the 20-year-old could be Gagliardini’s replacement following an outstanding loan spell at Reggina last season.

However, according to FCIN1908, there is little chance of that happening. Inter want to sign Fabbian out on loan for more playing time.

Bologna, Frosinone, Genoa, and Torino are all reportedly keen.

As to what Inter’s plan is for the last remaining midfielder, FCIN1908 report that the Nerazzurri want a younger player.

At the same time, the outlet reports, they want to make a low-cost deal.

The idea is to go after a midfielder with some potential to grow, who is not going to be a big short-term signing.

In recent weeks Inter have been linked with Udinese’s Lazar Samardzic and Tottenham Hotspur’s Pape Sarr.
