Inter Milan could announce the contract extension of captain Lautaro Martinez before Saturday’s Serie A match against Hellas Verona.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Inter have already just announced three important contract extensions.

Yesterday, the Nerazzurri made new deals for all of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Matteo Darmian, and Federico Dimarco official.

The trio have put pen to paper on contracts until the end of 206, 2025, and 2027 respecitvely.

But Inter aren’t stopping there.

The next extension that Inter make official will be even bigger than the three that they already did yesterday.

The Nerazzurri are ready to tie their captain Martinez down on a new long-term deal.

Inter Could Announce Lautaro Martinez Extension Before Verona Clash

The first new contract that Inter are ready to finalize is for captain Martinez.

The talks between Inter and the Argentine have been well-publicized.

The Nerazzurri have decided that tying their captain – whose current contract runs out at the end of June 2026 – down on a new deal until the end of June 2028, is a priority.

Martinez is a key player on the pitch for Inter. That’s putting it mildly.

The Argentine has been the Nerazzurri’s top scorer in each of the past two seasons. And he is well on track to do so for the third time in a row this campaign.

And Martinez’s loyalty is also a key factor.

Premier League sides Arsenal, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur have all targeted the Nerazzurri striker in the recent past.

Inter want to send a very clear “hands off” message.

Martinez will sign a long-term contract extension until the end of 2028.

And the 26-year-old will receive a significant pay increase to around €8 million net per season.

This will make Martinez, who inherited the captain’s armband in the summer, Inter’s highest earner by some distance.

Everything is in place for Inter to make Martinez’s new contract official.

So much so, the Gazzetta report, that the Argentine could put pen to paper in time for the announcement before next Saturday’s Serie A match against Verona.
