Lautaro Martinez is one step away from extending his contract with Inter Milan

This according to Sky Sport Italia transfer market journalist Matteo Barzaghi, who reports on Twitter that the Argentine international could put pen to paper on a new deal at the end of this month,

Martinez’s new contract at Inter now looks to be much more of a “when” rather than an “if.”

That has, in truth, been the case for some time.

Inter have made extending their captain’s contract a priority. Martinez’s current deal runs out at the end of June 2026, but the club want to make it 2028.

The 26-year-old is right at the centre of the Nerazzurri project.

He is the team’s top scorer in each of the past two seasons. And his goal on Saturday afternoon against Hellas Verona took him one step further towards repeating that feat this time around.

Martinez has just gotten back from a minor muscle injury.

And the Argentine’s return to the pitch confirms just how important he is to this Inter team.

Lautaro Martinez Contract Extension Talks Down To Final Details

Inter are keen to extend their captain’s contract as soon as possible.

The 26-year-old is not without suitors. The likes of Arsenal, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur have all targeted the Nerazzurri striker in the recent past.

Therefore, the Nerazzurri will want to make a “hands off” statement with a new deal for Martinez.

Reports have suggested that Martinez should put pen to paper very soon.

Martinez’s agent recently made clear that the talks with Inter are not yet finished.

But according to Barzaghi, there is little left to do. The parties are just discussing the last formalities.

The substance of the agreement on a new deal is there.

An Martinez could put pen to paper on a new deal around the end of January. Then, Inter can make the official announcement.
