Sky Sport Italia transfer market expert Gianluca Di Marzio expects that defender Stefan de Vrij will extend his contract with Inter Milan.

Reporting live on air, via FCInter1908, Di Marzio outlined the Nerazzurri’s strategy in defense for the summer transfer window.

De Vrij’s situation is one of a number of uncertain ones in Inter’s backline for next season.

Whilst Milan Skriniar has confirmed that he’ll leave, a number of players could either stay or go.

Inter will reportedly hold decisive contract extension talks with de Vrij after the Coppa Italia final. The Dutchman’s current deal expires at the end of next month and Villarreal are keen on his signature.

However, the former Lazio defender is far from the only defender who may or may not be wearing an Inter shirt next season.

Di Marzio: De Vrij Likely To Extend Inter Milan Contract

Sky transfer expert Di Marzio gave a rundown of Inter’s defensive strategy.

“They’ll have to sign a defender regardless of Skriniar,” he said.

“There are experienced solutions in defense, such as D’Ambrosio or de Vrij, who will extend his contract,” he continued. “But surely they need another player, younger, to build around.”

A number of players are linked to Inter as they seek this profile that Di Marzio outlines.

Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo, Red Bull Salzburg’s Oumar Solet, Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah, and Lille’s Tiago Djalo are all on Inter’s radar.

Extending Alessandro Bastoni’s Contract Also A Priority

Di Marzio then went on to note that “I think the other priority is extending Bastoni’s contract.”

“Inter need to make it official as soon as possible, because he represents a source of certainty for the future,” he said of the 23-year-old’s contract.

“His deal expires at the end of June 2024, the player’s desire is to stay, this would be a vital step for Inter’s future.”

Di Marzio: Keeping Francesco Another Priority For Inter Milan

The Sky journalist lastly noted, “And then Acerbi’s future also has to be understood. He would have to be signed permanently, he’s not an Inter player. In June he will be a Lazio player and Inter will have to sign him.”

“With the confirmation that Simone Inzaghi will stay, I think Acerbi becomes another priority,” he suggested.

“Inzaghi did everything to convince the owners to sign him on the last day of last summer window,” Di Marzio added of Acerbi. He clarified, “Not the club directors, who were already all convinced.”
