Spurs wingback Ivan Perisic could make a shock return to Inter Milan just one year after leaving to join Tottenham.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, who report that the 34-year-old Croatian international already wants to leave, and that the Nerazzurri could well bring him back if they first sell Robin Gosens.

Last summer, Perisic left Inter to join Tottenham.

The Nerazzurri had offered the Croat a contract extension. However, Perisic decided to turn down the offer and prioritized a new adventure in the Premier League.

Things have not exactly gone according to plan for Perisic in London, however.

Tottenham have not qualified for any European competitions next season. Moreover, the club parted ways with coach Antonio Conte in March after a tumultuous few months in which the former Inter, Juventus, and Chelsea boss was unable to arrest a slide in form.

All of this means that Perisic has little desire to stay at Tottenham next season.

Ivan Perisic Could Make Sensational Return To Inter Milan From Tottenham

According to Tuttosport, Perisic would like a return to Inter next season.

Despite the 34-year-old having only left the San Siro last summer, ending a seven-year stay, he is already hoping to go back. He could follow Romelu Lukaku in making a high-profile return just a season after moving to the Premier League.

Perisic had been widely regarded as, if not Inter’s single outstanding performer last summer, very close to it.

Moreover, despite having steadied their form and reached the Champions League final, Inter have struggled at times to adjust without Perisic.

The Croat’s dribbling ability has been missed at times.

For Perisic to return, two things would be necessary. First would be for Robin Gosens to be sold.

The German still has interest from a number of clubs, particularly in the Bundesliga. If Gosens were to depart, there would certainly be a spot open on the left flank for Perisic.

Alternatively, Tuttosport, Inter are monitoring some younger players from Serie A as alternative replacements for Gosens. These include Empoli’s Fabiano Parisi, Spezia’s Emil Holm, and Salernitana’s Pasquale Mazzocchi.

The other condition that would need to be met for Perisic to come back to Inter would be a salary reduction. The Croat currently earns around €6 million net per season at Spurs, which would not be in line with Inter’s wage structure.

Perisic was recently at the San Siro for Inter’s Champions League semifinal second leg win over AC Milan. He is also expected to attend the Champions League final against Manchester City.
