Marcus Thuram has already spoken with Simone Inzaghi ahead of his imminent move to Inter Milan on a free transfer.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the 25-year-old has been in contact with the Nerazzurri coach over the phone as he has made his choice partly for tactical reasons.
Inter have had to beat city rivals AC Milan as well as Paris Saint-Germain to the signature of French international Thuram.
The Nerazzurri have been pursuing Thuram as a summer free transfer opportunity. They’ve been in talks with the Thuram‘s representatives since the World Cup about a potential summer move.
Meanwhile, all of Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, and Manchester United have made their attempts, among others.
The Nerazzurri had already been close to signing Thuram as far back as the summer of 2021. However, a knee injury to the player prompted them to move on to other targets, signing Joaquin Correa from Lazio instead.
However, in the end, Inter have convinced Thuram to choose them above all other suitors. The Gazzetta report that medicals for the move could take place this Tuesday.
Simone Inzaghi Helps Inter Win The Race To Sign Marcus Thuram
According to the Gazzetta, a big part of the reason for Thuram’s decision is that he is convinced by Inter’s footballing project.
The truth is that, even though Inter have went out on a limb with their financial offer, Thuram could earn more elsewhere. Wages alone have not been enough to convince the Frenchman.
However, Thuram sees himself as being best-suited to play in a strike partnership.
This is exactly what he would be able to do at Inter. The Nerazzurri play exclusively in a 3-5-2 shape with two strikers under Inzaghi.
Now, Thuram will have the chance to take the next step in his growth playing alongside another attacker.
Inzaghi will certainly have a key role in determining what that next step looks like. The ex-Lazio boss will mastermind the tactical setup in which Thuram plays.
According to the Gazzetta, the player has already spoken with his new coach about how they will work together.
