Atalanta will have to offload Inter Milan target Merih Demiral this summer if they’re to do their other transfer business.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that La Dea will need to find a new club for Demiral if they’re to sign Rodrigo Becao as his replacement, and could open up to the option of loaning the Turk to Inter.

A move for Demiral away from Atalanta has always looked close to inevitable this summer.

Last season a rift formed between the Turkish international, who is under contract with La Dea until the end of June 2026, and his coach Gian Piero Gasperini. He is out of the project in Bergamo and Atalanta will look for a new club.

However, as of yet there is still a lot of work that Atalanta have to do to actually offload the former Juventus and Sassuolo star.

Demiral has reportedly turned down offers from Turkey and Saudi Arabia. His priority is to join Inter.

Atalanta Must Offload Inter Milan Target Merih Demiral This Summer

The Nerazzurri had already reportedly been close to signing the Turk during the January transfer window of last season. At the time, they had lined him up as a possible emergency replacement for Milan Skriniar.

Inter were ready to move for Demiral if Paris Saint-Germain had made an acceptable offer to sign Skriniar midseason. In the end, that did not happen and so both Demiral and Skriniar stayed put.

However, that delayed the inevitable.

Inter still have to replace Milan Skriniar with the Slovakian having left to head to Paris Saint-Germain. The departure Danilo D’Ambrosio adds further urgency to the Nerazzurri’s casting call for a defensive signing.

A move for Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta fell through, leaving Inter back at square one.

Accordingly, the conditions are there for the Nerazzurri to reignite their pursuit of Demiral.

Reportedly, Inter’s hope is that they can secure an initial loan move for the 25-year-old. This could the contain a purchase option.

For their part, Demiral’s club are not keen on this idea. They are aiming to sell the former Bianconeri defender on a permanent basis.

However, as the time ticks away from the transfer window, La Dea’s stance may change.

The Gazzetta report that Atalanta want to sign one-time Inter target Rodrigo Becao from Udinese. The Brazilain would be the de facto replacement for Demiral in their squad.

However, Atalanta can hardly move for Becao before finding a solution for Demiral.

Therefore, the Gazzetta suggests, the Bergamasque club may well decide to sit down at the table with Inter.
