Inter Milan want to sign Sampdoria goalkeeper Emil Audero to be their new backup keeper in the upcoming season.

This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, who report that Audero is the top name on the Nerazzurri’s list for a new second-choice between the sticks.

At the moment, the goalkeeping situation at Inter looks very much up in the air.

Most significantly, there is the question of whether Andre Onana will stay or go. Manchester United are ready to make a big offer, but it remains to be seen whether the Red Devils’ bid will be large enough to convince Inter to sell the Cameroonian.

Should the Nerazzurri sell Onana, they’ll sign a new first-choice keeper. Shakhtar Donetsk’s Anatoliy Trubin and Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili are targets in this respect.

Then there is third-choice keeper Alex Cordaz. It is looking as though the 40-year-old will follow Marcelo Brozovic to Al-Nassr, with the Saudi Pro League wanting him to join in a coaching role.

And whilst Inter captain Samir Handanovic is currently out of contract, he could sign a new deal. The 38-year-old could provide a bit of stability and continuity if both Onana and Cordaz depart.

Inter Milan Aiming To Sign Sampdoria Keeper Emil Audero

If two or even all three of the current Nerazzurri keepers are to leave, it would certainly leave the club needing a radical rethink.

They could have to rebuild the whole complement of keepers.

Whilst Inter are seeking a younger profile like Trubin or Mamardashvili to replace Onana if the Cameroonian leaves, they could also look for a more experienced player to be the new arrival’s deputy.

That could well be Audero.

Audero’s club Sampdoria have suffered relegation to Serie B after a debacle of a 2022-23 season.

This will mean that the Ligurian club will have to sell a number of players. Audero is one player who looks very likely to be on his way.

The Italian international is proven at the Serie A level. Audero was hardly at fault for the Blucerchiati’s relegation, and already has suitors within Serie A.

The 26-year-old certainly doesn’t lack experience in the Italian top flight. For this reason, Sky reports, Inter have made him their main target for a backup role.
